Blog Entry 4

Weather Conditions: 87° F, Cold breeze, and Slightly windy

Site Description:

Most of the site has stayed the same since the last visit. Based on the results so far there might not be that much of a change to some of these plants. I found more debris in the site, similar to what I found last time, just less of it. The debris I did find was pretty different from what I’d normally see. One of the drawings included was this brown oddly shaped leaf that was not from any tree I could see in the site or anywhere near it, it must have traveled quite a distance to end up here. Another interesting piece of debris that I found was this spiky seed from what I believe to be a sweetgum tree, which is also not located on-site or anywhere near it but is located in California. I believe the spiky portion of the seed, the outside layer, is to keep predators from eating it, which to me is an interesting idea. This tree has a physical defense for its seeds instead of the more common chemical defense or just no defense at all. On the right side of the site, I noticed that some of the vine covering the fence had made its way over to the side of the house. Another interesting thing about this is that the plant that spreads to the other area is actually a completely different shade of green since it gets a lot less sunlight, so it is very dark in comparison to the one attached to the fence. In the middle of the site, I noticed that the hedge still has one flowered bud on it, while all the others are likely done. It is quite interesting that there is still one so well preserved while the others have all come and gone.

Which plants will be most likely to start to lose their leaves during the coming winter?

Some Landscape photos of the site:
A little less sunlight than normal so I took new pictures.

Some interesting pictures of the site:

An interesting leaf that fell into the dirt and has seemingly
been a meal to multiple passing insects.
Last remaining flower on the shrub mentioned earlier.
Interesting spiky seed debris mentioned earlier.

Some sketches of some interesting leaves and flowers:

Interesting leaf debris sketched with some leaf info.
Part of the leaf from the vine mentioned earlier.
My poor excuse of a drawing depicting the decaying leaf.
